What is this file?
This POI file for your GPS contains over 77,000 schools in the US, in all 50 states. Each school's location is the school's mailing address. This file is over 8.5 MB in size. Verify with your GPS manufacturer that you have the memory space available. There are no refunds for this product due to lack of available memory!
What do I do with this file?
If your GPS has proximity alert capability (most new units do - but consult your owner's manual to be sure), then you simply install this POI file to your unit, and configure it for either speed or distance notification. As you drive and approach any of over 77,000 school locations in the US, your GPS will let you know so you can check your speed, slow down, obey the law and prevent an unwanted speeding ticket.
What do I get for my money?
You get the school speed zone POI file, containing the locations of over 77,000 schools in the US. In addition you get free updates for the entire year if the file is updated.
How accurate is the file? Does it contain all schools in the US?
The file is highly accurate. All 77,000 entries are geocoded to address-number precision, using the street address listed by the school with the US Department of Education. In other words, it is the best any man or machine can do. But, nope, it doesn't contain every school in the US. Just as you sometimes can't find an address in Google Maps or Mapquest, there are school's with an address that modern technology just can't find. But don't fear - the file isn't inaccurate - we simply left those schools out, so the resulting file contains 77,000 highly accurate locations.
